Description
How to Hear Me: Walking the Journey – Practical Strategies for Trauma Counselling with People with Intellectual Disabilities is the long-awaited follow up to WWILD’s first publication, How to Hear Me. This new text updates much of the knowledge on therapeutic counselling with people with intellectual disability who are recovering from sexual violence, domestic violence or other crime from the first book, but brings a strong focus on practical activities that WWILD counsellors have developed or adapted from a range of counselling theories and methodologies. These activities serve to concretise the experience of counselling which is often abstract and difficult to access for people with intellectual disability, as we work towards achieving safety and stabilisation, processing trauma, healing and growth. This book is aimed at counsellors or clinicians already trained in trauma therapy practice, who are looking to upskill to make their practice accessible for people with intellectual disability or other cognitive impairments.
