Legal Aid Queensland’s Women’s Domestic Violence Court Assistance Service provides court-based support at the Brisbane Magistrates Court. They also provide an Application Assistance Program on Mondays and Fridays (9am-1pm, drop-in service ONLY) from the Brisbane Magistrates Court (Level 6) to assist in understanding and preparing domestic violence order applications.

Areas of advice: Women’s Legal Service Queensland (WLS) provides free legal and social work help with domestic violence, complex family law and sexual assault notes counselling privilege matters to women and people who live and identify as women in Queensland. Priority is given to women with safety risks and those experiencing multiple forms of disadvantage.

 

Basic Rights Queensland (BRQ) is a specialist community legal centre, providing free advice, advocacy and legal services state-wide by telephone. The D&HRLS is a legal service for people who have been treated unfairly or discriminated against because of their disability, age, family responsibilities, gender identity, race, relationship status, religious beliefs, sexuality; or association to someone of a particular attribute. Additionally, any work in relation to the recently passed Human Rights Act (Qld). The D&HRLS provides legal advice to disadvantaged people in the community throughout Queensland. TASC National provides a range of services across Queensland to assist various community segments, including legal services, mental health, and disability advocacy In Toowoomba, Ipswich, Roma, Hervey Bay, Bundaberg, Goondiwindi and greater south-west region. They offer legal advice and referrals in areas such as family law, domestic violence law, and consumer law. Their mental health and disability advocacy programs focus on helping individuals navigate system complexities and assert their rights effectively. Additionally, TASC extends support to seniors facing elder abuse and assists individuals seeking to engage with the National Redress Scheme.

Queensland Advocacy Incorporated (QAI) is an independent, community-based, individual, systemic and legal advocacy organisation for people with disability in Queensland, Australia. Services include individual legal advocacy in support of persons whose disability is at the centre of their legal issue. This may include – NDIS Appeals Support; Justice Support; the Human Rights Legal Service, the Mental Health Legal Service; and the Disability Royal Commission.

ADA Law assists people living with cognitive impairments, or questioned capacity, when a person wants to review, change, or revoke: QCAT appointed decision makers; Enduring Powers of Attorney; Advance Health Directives. ADA Law can also assist with support to work with their existing decision makers, a person is appearing at MHRT hearings for ECT applications; Forensic Order Reviews; (or Treatment Authorities under 18 years of age); are referred by Legal Aid Queensland or are Living in aged care and experiencing elder abuse, either by a family member, service provider, or attorney.
